Success Report: The 2026 Free Community Mental Health Breakfast

There is a profound, undeniable energy that fills a room when a community comes together with a shared purpose of healing. That is exactly what we experienced at the 2026 Free Community Mental Health Breakfast. This year’s breakfast was a beautiful, living embodiment of our vision for creating safe spaces that foster progress and unity for oppressed populations.

First and foremost, thank you! To every single person who walked through those doors, shared a meal, shared a story, or simply supported one another.

We want to extend our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to our incredible volunteers and donors. Your contributions made our dream a reality. Because of your unwavering generosity, we surpassed our fundraising goal and didn't have an empty seat in the house! Your contributions empower the life-saving work of NAMI Illinois, the nonprofit providing free mental health services to 90,000+ residents every year.

We are also incredibly proud—and deeply humbled—by the wider recognition our movement is receiving. This week, our organization and the 2026 Community Mental Health Breakfast were featured on the front pages of several reputable publications linked below, including MedicalResearch.com, Medigy Innovation Network, Culture Buzz, and Daily Track Health.

Seeing our mission amplified on these platforms is about so much more than press. It is a powerful validation that the world is waking up to the critical importance of mental health equity. It proves that the stories, struggles, and triumphs of marginalized communities are front-page news.

While the breakfast is over, our work is a year-round commitment. We are energized by this success, but we know there are still so many barriers to break down and so much healing left to do.

Thank you for believing in us, for investing in the community, and for walking alongside us on this journey toward holistic wellness for all!

"We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Calynn Lawrence, NAMI Illinois Board Member and State Development Chair, her sponsors, and everyone who supported the Community Mental Health Breakfast. The $1,100+ raised through this event will help NAMI Illinois train community volunteers to lead free mental health support groups, educational programs, and presentations in their local communities.

Specifically, this amount can provide stipends for two NAMI trainers to conduct a weekend training that prepares individuals with lived experience and family members to deliver NAMI programs across Illinois. These trained volunteers help ensure that people can access free mental health support, education, and hope without insurance, referrals, diagnoses, or other eligibility requirements."
